BDU’s Medical Interpreting Program is well under way! Best Buddies Virtual Bingo and Mrs. Katie Smith 2021 BDU Teacher of the Year!

BDU’s Medical Interpreting Program is well under way!  Newly certified instructor EJ Jzar holds virtual training sessions for seniors on Fridays.  Her virtual instructional strategies have worked well and were endorsed by the Bridging the Gap Program due to the pandemic to better reach our scholars and make sure the medical interpreting license is still a possibility despite remote and hybrid learning.  This group meets weekly on our google meet support day and student participation is at an all time high for this program that will help our students become a well paid medical interpreter by the time they graduate from BDU.

Katie Smith is another exceptional staff member holding weekly student meetings on Fridays and after school!  Katie established our first Best Buddies Chapter at BDU and this week held a Valentine’s Day Bingo on our Friday Google Meet support day to engage students in some fun activities related to the upcoming holiday theme.  She also partnered students to each lunch together starting on the first day of their return to in-person instruction with assigned 6 foot seating in our Student Services to provide them face to face collaboration time as well.  Katie was also just selected by her colleagues as the BDU Teacher of the Year!
