Wayne Township School Board Announces Search for New Superintendent

The M.S.D. of Wayne Township School Board is leading a search to hire its next Superintendent following the recent announcement of Dr. Jeffrey Butts’ upcoming retirement.  

Dr. Butts, who has served as superintendent since 2011, will retire effective January 4, 2026, to serve as Executive Director of the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS) beginning January 5, 2026. His tenure is marked by impressive accomplishments in academic achievement, financial stewardship, community engagement, and educational innovation.

The School Board has outlined a search process to find Dr. Butts’ successor. Applications will be accepted from July 15 to August 15, 2025. Those interested in applying must submit a resume, three letters of recommendation, written responses, and proof of appropriate licensure. Staff, parents, students, and community members are invited to participate in a survey to help identity the qualities and characteristics needed in MSD Wayne’s next leader. The survey will be open from July 20 to August 4 and will be accessible through the district website. This early community input will help inform the selection process. Survey responses will be compiled and analyzed, with results shared publicly in mid-August. A dedicated superintendent search webpage will keep the community informed throughout the hiring process. 

The School Board anticipates announcing its new Superintendent on October 6, 2025, with a start date of January 5, 2026.
