Coach Brett Cooper Named Colts/NFL 'Coach of the Week'

Ben Davis football is off to a season to remember. Head Coach Brett Cooper has been named the Colts/NFL Coach of the Week for Week 1, an honor he earned in his very first game leading the Giants.

The Giants made a statement in Cooper's debut, going toe-to-toe with Indianapolis Cathedral and coming out on top, 33-27 — the kind of win every new coach hopes for, and one that caught the attention of the panel of football media, former athletic directors and other representatives from across the state who select the weekly honoree.

On Wednesday, August 26, former Colts safety Mike Prior made a surprise visit to Ben Davis to deliver the news in person. Prior announced Cooper as Coach of the Week, presented him with a generous check, and spoke to students in a memorable moment for Cooper and the program.

The Coach of the Week award, presented by QCollar and sponsored in part by Certor Sports, is now in its 27th year of recognizing outstanding high school football coaches across Indiana. Coaches are evaluated not just on wins, but on their impact on their team, school, and community.

The recognition comes with real rewards for Ben Davis. At the end of the season, Cooper will receive a $1,000 donation from the NFL Foundation and a commemorative plaque, QCollar will contribute an additional $1,000 to the Ben Davis athletic fund, and Certor Sports will issue a $1,000 helmet credit to the football program.
