Ben Davis University High School Recognized for Excellence at Early College Celebration
Ben Davis University High School (BDU) proudly announces its recent recognition at the Early College Endorsement Celebration hosted by the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis on June 4, 2024. This prestigious event highlighted the outstanding achievements and dedication of BDU in fostering academic excellence and providing unparalleled opportunities for its students.
During the celebration, Chris Lowery, Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education, praised the transformative impact of Early College programs, stating, “These programs change lives.” University of Indianapolis President Dr. Tanuja Singh further emphasized the crucial role of higher education in shaping successful futures.
Early College High Schools are designed to boost college enrollment and success rates, especially among students who have been historically underrepresented in higher education. For the 2021 cohort, an impressive 76% of Early College graduates from endorsed schools pursued college education, significantly higher than the 53% of Indiana students overall.
To earn the designation of an endorsed Early College High School, institutions must offer students the opportunity to graduate with a high school diploma and the Indiana College Core, an associate degree, a technical credential, or 15 or more dual credits.
Ben Davis University High School, endorsed since 2011, stands as a beacon of success and a national leader in Early College programs. BDU provides students with the unique opportunity to earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree. Principal Valerie Miller shared, “Our scholars thrive in our small and personalized environment where they feel connected and involved. Our rigorous curriculum challenges scholars to think critically, communicate effectively, and excel academically. With a focus on real-world skills and knowledge, Ben Davis University High School prepares scholars for the demands of higher education and beyond.”
